We all know how great it feels to to obtain a pair of sneakers that is real limited. You either keep them to use as part of a collection or you wear them to show it off. But I always asked myself, is it necessary to make a shoe limited because of the hype it has gotten from different websites and/or word of mouth? People go out of there way to obtain a certain sneaker they have an eye for does seem like it's crazy but who are we to judge. People say that I waste my money on sneakers or I have more than enough shoes, but I would rather spend my money on a fresh looking pair of kicks rather then spending my money on a pack of cigarettes, drugs, other shit that might mess with your body in the long-run; but let me get back on topic.
Nike has released many limited sneakers through time and it has been a very successful plan on their part to release a scarce amount. But what about the so-called "sneakerhead" or what about the so-called "hypebeasts" that spend mad cash on a sneaker that they really want. We all feed off hype which drives us to either save up money or go broke. Nike pays very low prices per shoe when it comes straight out the factory but we end up paying out of our ass and Nike gets real good profit from it. The company is one big hustle but who is to hate on it (besides the factory laborers). Nike as gotten other companies like Reebok and Adidas to follow the trend as well.
Besides Nike, resellers can make eveything even worse. They go buy the shoe and make profit by selling their shoe on ebay and/or various sneaker forums. Their target "customer" is someone who did not get their hands on it because they either couldn't make it to get the shoe on launch day or you have my problem which is you're in an area that has a 98% chance of not getting the shoe. My area hardly gets some general release shoes so if you're a sneakerhead, just stay away from West Virginia period because this state is one of the poorest states in our nation and there is nothing exciting about it (except if you love country music). We tremble when we see a shoe that we want at dreadful rape prices but most of us give in to it and pay it. But when some people pay the over-the-top prices, they get afraid to wear the shoe because of how much they've paid. So it sits in the box getting no light and you get anxious to wear them everyday but you still say no.
So the sneaker culture has it's ups and downs and, i think, is well balanced when it comes to exclusivity. We love sneakers and we will do anything we can to obtain them. No matter the price, a pair of sneakers will always have a home somewhere around the world. We feed off the hype and sneakerheads are always hungry (and broke...lol). So when I ask if exclusivity is necessary, I say that exclusitivy is great when you have the limited shoe. But if you don't have it and you really want it then go for it, no matter how much it is. But think about it like this; it's WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY better then buying fakes for $60. =]
