Rock the Bells 2008

As you know, Rock the Bells swung by Miami on the 2nd (we're super late, we know) and you know we
couldnt disappoint ya'll in bringin full coverage. Doors opened at 12 but mad
people had been there way before that. We took the train got there at about 12:30pm.

Sun was at the top of the sky. It was def. makin itself seen and known.

The organization this year was a fuckin mess.

It was 2:00pm by the time we were able to get our tickects. W.T.EF. people?

So were finally in.

Lets start the show.

Murs was up first.

His set included 'Dreadlocks' (featured on NFL Madden 08 for those go and download this song and find it to sound familiar), 'Silly Girl' (my fav), repped for his hometown in 'L.A.' and then a new track with a catchy hook which had the crowd goin nuts. He def def did his thing and picked up some fans.

Next up was Immortal Technique.

His set was mad hype, angry and on a revolutionary tip, but it's Immortal Technique; what do you expect? 'Industrial Revolution,' 'The 3rd World,' 'Bin Laden' were among the songs that he did. He also busted a verse in Spanish which I thought was amazing. After his set, his DJ (G.I. Joe) came down and did some windmills and flips and things. Really hyped up the bboy and bgirl crowd.

Next up, my favorite UPTOWN ROAMER Wale

He performed his verse from 'Rising up,' the Roots song he was featured on. Then it was 'Back in the Go Go' because everyone knows DC is the Go Go capital and every performer got a song where they rep for their hometown. Then 'Good Girls' and of course 'Nike Boots.' Why he didn't perform Uptown Roamers is beyond me. I love that song and the bass in it would have sounded amazing. Maybe next time..

Supernatural was doing a little bit of hosting just like he did last year and in between Wale and De La Soul he of course did his famous freestyling. This man can freestyle about anything. Give him your sisters pink barbie watch and he'll make the illest rhyme out of it. Yo, he started freestlying in his voice, Busta Rhyme's voice, Slick Rick and Biggie. He does a pretty good job. Great dude Supernat. There was such a nice moment where he asked the crowd, "Do you love Hip-Hop?" And everyone of course screamed "Yes I do." We went back and forth a couple times with that question and that answer and it was just amazing to see such a huge crowd of people united by one theme: love for music. No fights, no drama, no ridiculous fake street swagger... just love. I'm sure that anyone who was there felt that same feeling either at that point or another during the day.

B Real from Cypress Hill came our when SuperNat was done to say a little something to the crowd and to introde our next performer: De La Soul. Do we even have to say how the crowd got? Especially when 'Potholes in My Lawn' came on. And woooooo 'Supa Emcees.' "Every woman and man wanna emcee..," yes, it's true. Classic. Then Dres from Black Sheep came and joined them onstage and it was like a mini Native Tongues reunion. Tribe should have made a mini appearance...

The Ice Cream Man is COMING! Raekwon & Ghostface Killah were up next. 'Ice Cream" up first and people were rapping along the words like the song came out last week and not '95! A very special and memorable moment was when Ghost and Raekwon did their own rendition of 'Raw' in memory of the late ODB (Ol Dirty Bastard). We want to give a very special shout to KATHY for rappin along with the best of them! Dudes aint the only ones that appreciate real hip hop and our girl holds us down. They finished the set up with 'Bring Da Ruckus' and of course C.R.E.A.M. Cause "cash rules everything around me; get that money, dollar dollar bills yall." Great way to end the set, much love to this part of Wu-Tang.

At this point in the concert it's about 6:30 pm, 6:45 pm and although the sun was definitely past it's peak most of us concert goers were definitely feeling delirious. No water + TONS of Miami sun + an unbearable amount of contact smoke = MASSIVE DELIRIUM and mellow attitudes. Nevertheless RandumbMiami's baby daddy Mos Def was up next. Boy, did we enjoy him. I love him performing. He was a little stank about taking pictures backstage, warning everyone: "Take all your pictures now because I'm not doing this backstage." Uhm, someone was tired... But we still love him. We happen to not be in the mental capacity to remember song titles but we know it was a good set. C'mon it was Mos Def!! We still kind of wish Talib would have popped out of somewhere and Blackstar coulda done their thing for a bit.

The next few performers didn't get our full attention simply because the delirium had reached full potential. We do remember that the boys from Pharcyde were next. I barely remember them on set but I do remember people feeling them. Method Man and Redman were up next and they had the crowd sooooo hype. 'Da Rockwilder'... always a crowd favorite. Some crowd surfing went on, a brief and completely irrelevant appearance by N.O.R.E & "Mixtape King" DJ EFN and then the announcement of the much anticipated HOW HIGH part 2. Release date...? Hm, not yet. Stay on the lookout for that.

Nasty NAS up next. Performing 'Nigger' of course and the crowd banger 'One Love.' 'The World is Yours,' 'They Shootin' & Relz's favorite 'One Mic' were all along the hits performed.

And then... the much anticipated: TRIBE CALLED QUEST. But not before Q-tip came out and did his solo thing for a bit. He even had Mos Def hype him up for a little while. 'Vibrant Thing' came on and we all went nuts. Love that song. Tribe definitely did their thing and I'm sorry we don't have much recollection of their performance. It was such a long and tiring day but completely worth every second of sun, sweat, dehydration & ill vibes.

See yall next year...

Whats in your fanny pak?

Yo. So yesterday we informed you that the crew Fanny Pak were gonna be rockin them milkshakes on last nights episode of American's Best Dance Crew.

If you got a chance to see the intro, you saw Missy Elliot do her thing right..aaas usual and you saw that Fanny Pak wore the hell outta those milkshakes.

I was able to get a small vid. feed of the intro. Right at the beginning, peep the kicks on the girl towards the right. MILKSHAKES!

Yes thats Missy Elliot walking through fire. Yes shes amazing.

Fanny Pak ended up being in the bottom 2 this week and they had to dance it off with the Boogie Bots to hold down a spot for next weeks top 3 crews.

So the Boogie Bots go out n do their thing and...it lacked...everything unfortunately...def not enough to comepete against what Fanny Pak came wit.

Here's a lil of what they did.

and thats just the beginning I promise that shit is INSANE

so the Boogie Bots get booted and its now down to Fanny Pak, Super Cr3w aaaand Soul Real Cru.

Big shouts to Fanny Pak for doin their thing.

I dont know who I want to win it all but all the teams deserve it.

Stay live ya'll
