RNDM for OBAMA

Florida is a critical state in the presidential election
and with November 4th right around the corner, both candidates are scrambling for those last minute undecided votes
and the opportunity to sway anyone they can to vote their way.

We posted about democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama coming to visit Miami on the 21st of October and thousands upon thousands showed up to show support,
to feel something, to be won over, to be involved, to be there.

Many thousands couldnt even get in.

And with Aretha Franklin playing in the background, it felt like a little change was coming to Washington.

Graffiti in Italy

Our good homeboy Tracey, whom I'm sure you will be hearing a lot of in the future, recently took a trip overseas to a place that I absolutely hope to see before I die: Italy. We're glad that he's back home now, especially since he brought us back these photos:

Aren't these pieces amazing? It's not just America guys... Love for this culture is worldwide.

Thanks to Tracey for the amazing photos!

Barack in Miami!

Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama will be making an appearance with Michelle Obama today October 21, 2008 in Miami at Bicentennial Park. Doors open at 3:45 PM and he should be taking the podium at 5:30 PM or so.

We can only hope they fist bump for us!

You already know RANDUMBmiami we'll be there to cover it for you just in case you can't make.

We hope this prompts the community to go out and vote.

Yesterday un-fucking-fortunately I was unable to take a picture of a sign hanging off of Bird Rd. and the Palmetto that said

VOTE EARLY
VOTE FOR CHANGE
VOTE OBAMA

Regardless of who your vote will be for, get out and make your voice heard.

You know 500 votes could have made the difference last election. Don't let Florida be counted out.

Copy & Paste

Today I learned an important lesson. In this copy and paste world, you can't get mad at people for biting.

The devoted readers of this blog know that we broke the news of the Married to the Mob and Nike collabo and even though other blogs feel the need to use our news and picture without crediting, we know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

On to better news!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!!

The MTTM x Nike Dunk Hi Supreme will be available on Nov 8th at Patta. Here are some more beautiful pictures for you to drool over in the meantime. Courtesy once more of Patta.

Leah loves her some Chanel so it only makes sense that the material chosen for the shoe would draw from Chanel tweed jackets. The patent leather toebox enclosure, also a Chanel inspiration, this time drawing from those oh so popular Chanel patent leather flats. Some gold thrown in on the lace flaps (is that what it's called?) and those beautiful lacelocks.... I'd say they have a winner.

Those shoes are perfection and I hope they drop at my local Tier-0 account holder. Ayo seriously... All I want for Christmas... is these.

The Way of the B-Boy

"It’s really great to see B-Boys & B-Girls gettin’ their shine in this new full length documentary. For 30 years, b-boys & b-girls have been breakin’ to the sounds of hip hop beats. Receiving mass attention in the early to mid 80s, the art of break dancing has not died out. Check the trailer to this awesome documentary about and click through to read the reset of the details.

The Way Of The B-boy is a full-length visually eye-popping documentary & instruction course all-in-one, about three generations of b-boys and how the method of creating the dance is what changes it. B-boys Jeromeskee (Massive Monkees Crew, Rock Steady Crew) and Fever One (DVS, Rock Steady Crew) start with the most basic step, then reveal the moves and demonstrate how they are put together in combinations - in the original way that hasn’t changed since the 1970s."

Check out Way of the B-Boy for more info on the film and if you're in NY, Complex to win tickets to the premiere!

Sounds of Summer

Last week was a good one. We got to go see the Legendary Roots in concert and then, just a couple days after, we get to see N.E.R.D & Common together in the Miami leg of the Sounds of Summer Tour.

Chester French, newest addition to Star Trek Entertainment, opened up the show and he was quite the refreshing sound. He kept the crowd entertained unleast until it was time for N.E.R.D. They blew the roof off the place! Their energy was crazy and I know they had the Fillmore staff mad at them the way they had everyone bumrush to the stage. They were very into crowd participation, even pulling the cutest little white girl fan of theirs on stage with them for most of their set (seriously though, she was too adorable). And then... Lonnie blessed us. Watchin Common perform has got to be one of the highlights of my year. I've said it before and I'll forever say it.... I love that man.

IAHH

So a couple weekends ago, Chef & I participated once more in the IAHH: My Voice Matters Hip Hop Session. It's always the Saturday we look forward to most in the month. It's truly inspiring to feel like you're making a difference in someone's life. Especially through the power of Hip Hop.

Last session we attended had to do with the DJ and this time around, we got to do a topic that is oh so very close to my own heart: spoken word. We discussed and educated the kids about their 1st Amendment Right (Freedom of Speech) and how and what is are protected under it. It was so surprising to see the kids so enthusiastic and involved in this issue. It just goes to show how important it is that educators seeks relative ways of informing people about their rights.

After getting through a little bit of history, we got on to a DVD made by our lovely co-facilitator Ale. The clip showed a spoken word piece by Alicia Keys performed on Def Poetry Jam entitled, "P.O.W." Followed by this piece:

Gemineye - What Are You Fighting For?

then this one:

Black Ice

& this one...

INQ

and finally, an amazing piece by our other cofacilitator and one of the founders of the whole IAHH movement, Mauikai.

Mauikai - Used to Be

It was my favorite session of all time. Not only because of the amazing topic but because of how I saw those poems crept into those kids and changed their perspective. Maybe not permanently but even for the time we were there to be able to present a different view of a matter they are all too familiar with and have them look at things differently is an amazing thing. The feedback recieved was all positive. And even though at first I felt the topic wasn't gonna fly, it was a complete and total success.

If you want to be a part of IAHH and come experience a session for yourself don't be afraid to hit us up at ourvoicematters@gmail.com. Also, be sure to check out the myspace for more info. www.myspace.com/myvoicematters

Hova for Hope!

Damn, it's been a good year here in Miami... !

Thanks to the fact that Florida usually votes Republican [thanks '04], the Obamaists and my boy Jay-Z got smart: "Last Chance for Change"

On Sunday, October 5th, Jay-Z threw a free concert at Bayfront Park. YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. FREE. All you needed to do was register to vote and you were in. The voter registration rally was intended to motivate South Floridians to sign up and get out there and vote, especially since the deadline was yesterday, October 6th.

The turnout was phenomenal. I was beyond elated to see the spark in the sea of people. The celebrity-made Obama videos playing on the screens, the sound blasting through enormous monitors, and the energy that engulfed the air made me so emotional. I'm alive to witness one of the most monumental moments in history.

In addition to aaaall of this dope shit going on, my heart was popping out of my chest because one of my favorite rappers of all time was about to bless the stage and rock this bitch. HE PUT ON SUCH AN ILL SHOW. Jay did all the hot shit and then some. Encore, Feelin' It, Big Pimpin, Roc Boys, Can I Get A, Nigga What [Originator], PSA, Hard Knock Life, Show Me What You Got, Song Cry, Give It 2 Me, Swagga Like Us, Dirt Off Your Shoulder, Jockin Jay-Z, 99 Problems, Money Ain't a Thing... JUST TO NAME A FEW.

Click here to see the web gallery of the concert!

My best friend, Brian made a good point... Obama's the JFK of our time and we're the artistic hippies carrying the movement in the palm of our hands. Thanks Jay-Z. Thanks Obama for America. Thanks to the volunteers and everyone who worked the show... Thanks to EVERYONE WHO'S SUPPORTING THE MOVEMENT.

See you guys at the polls Nov. 4th...
