The New Year's Day death of 22-year-old Oscar Grant in Oakland, California, led to violent protests in the area after several videos of the incident on a train station platform were uploaded onto the website. One clearly shows the shooting.

The officer, who has resigned from the force, has not been charged with any wrongdoing. Some experts have questioned whether he fired his gun deliberately or mistakenly believed he was using his stun gun instead.

The shooting unfolded in front of dozens of train passengers who were returning home after New Year's Eve celebrations. Police arrived shortly after midnight on New Year's Day at the Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit station following reports of young men fighting on a train. Mr Grant was one of several who were ordered off the train, questioned and then restrained by transit police officer Johannes Mehserle, 27, and other officers.

Videos shot by onlookers on camera phones show Mr Grant being pushed onto his stomach shortly before Mehserle fired his gun at his back. The bullet ricocheted off a pavement and pierced his lung, killing him.

The victim's family claims that the officer shot him deliberately but some have argued that he may have thought he was firing his stun gun.

So how am I suppose to trust our system and respect cops when shit like this happens.

I ain't sayin all cops are fucking pigs but most of them..including this asshole are.

Excuse all my cursing but you gotta admit this is some fuckin bullshit.

Dude is riding the train just like everyone else...even if they DID have a reason to take him off the train and question him he had NOOOOOO reason what so ever to pull out a firearm.

And dont give me that bullshit about him thinking it was a stun gun...Im sure dude has been on the force long enough to distinguish the feeling of a gun and a stun gun in his hand. Im sure every cop does at some point.

Dont blame it on the "heat of the moment" because the man he shot was UNARMED.

And then he gets PAID LEAVE...decides to resign and gets off scott ass free. No charges. No nothing.

Nah.

This isn't the way things work. Then you complain about people goin all crazy and causing riots in the streets. The city law enforcement has no one to blame but themselves for the riots.

Riots are caused because of injustices and wrongdoings. Outrage and Pain.

I understand things must be handled in a civilized and rightful manner, but when that cop decided to take a gun and shoot an unarmed man in the back...

you tell me..was he trying to work it out with this man in a civilized manner?

I dont think so.
