Last night, I grabbed boss lady and took a trip to the O.H.W.O.W. gallery for their special screening of "Captured". The film is basically a compilation of some of the photographs and videos of Clayton Patterson that tell the emergence (or destruction, depending on your view) of Manhattan's Lower East Side.
I'm definitely not a native of Manhattan, much less of NY but I can say that the film still hit me hard and it made see things in a new light. We're seeing sort of the same thing happening to our areas of Wynwood and the areas that sprawl out from downtown. The humble streets, the eccentric, creative spirits being sucked out by the high rises and Starbucks and the money makers.
There were a bunch of different subjects touched upon in the over-too-soon movie. It sprawled out from how the Canadian Patterson arrived in L.E.S, to his archives upon archives of photographs; where he documented everything and everyone: drag queens to head bangers to junkies to anarchists, to the political chaos and gentrification surrounding the Tompkins Square police riots. Overall, it's an unbelievable documentary & definitely a must see.

Hellz is always keeping it fresh and funky and their special summer capsule collection will definitely keep you breezy during these final summer months. A couple days ago, they gave us a little teaser of their video that they shot for their capsule collection "Kicks After Six." Creative Director, Lanie Alabanza-Barcena, says that the limited 6 piece line draws "inspiration [from] familiar faces of fashion icons and iconic fashion brands who celebrate them." We see you with that YSL inspired tee.
The details on where purchase are a little sketchy but as soon as we get the info we'll pass it along to you of course. In the meantime, you can find video stills from the Capsule Collection & the gorgeously produced Short Film after the jump.

A couple years back the Hollywood hitmaker sneaker store otherwise known as Undftd teamed up with Nike to produce these AF1s, made exclusively for Turtle of the HBO series "Entourage." There are two and a half versions of the this special collaboration. The Entourage Turtle edition come in a special wooden box with lasered details.
Although the different versions of this shoe are super limited, I have amazing news for my fellow sneaker aficionados. Our local love, ATC on South Beach Up has a pair up for sale! These were THE ONLY PAIR made for the show's producers and has never been seen by the public until now. Serious offers will be taken for these. The ones from the show made for Turtle sold on ebay for close to $20k. These are even more rare than that. Anyone who is interested in these must contact DT from ATC for info on how to obtain these.
The pictures can be found after jump. Along with the contact info of course.

We attended the "Wordz Make You Think" Poetry Slam yesterday. There is just too much to say on what we experienced. The things we heard... An amazing array of emotion and beauty synchronized in the most delectable form of poetry that I've heard as of late. Young people, this is where you should be. This is what you should be hearing. Put away your SOULDJAH BOYs & LITTLE WAYNEs... and listen to the amazing melodies of your peers as they school us on life, as they see it.
The girl in this video you will recognize in the pictures below. Her name is Maxis and she is the coach for the Miami team, as well as a poet herself. The other poet, Diego, I was hoping to see at the event but he was not there. This poem in the video below entitled "Father"... it does too many things to me. Hear for yourself.
& that's only a minuscule portion of the eargasm we experienced yesterday. Here is a Photo Recap of the amazing competition.
*one to tease, some more to please after the jump.

Ray "Knowledge" Dominguez, HOST & Write Side Poets coach The judges The DJ The money tree The crowd "Can I get a mic check? Na... can I get a MIKE check?!" Your poem was nothing short of... electric Cuban, poet & coach of Team Jacksonville "In case of an emergency....." Probably my favorite poem of the night; you brought us to tears...
